Tony was elected to Dáil Éireann during the 2011 General Election. Prior to thi, he was an elected representative on both Sligo County Council, where he held a seat from 1974, and Sligo Borough Council. During his tenure on the Borough Council, Tony served as the Mayor of Sligo on four occasions.
