Elected in the midst of the most catastrophic economic collapse in Irish history. I have worked tirelessly since then to help restore stability and growth to the local economy. I have also worked to improve vital public services in Cork South-West to make our community a better place to live.
A native of Dunmanway in west Cork, I entered politics at the age of 22 gaining a seat for the Labour Party on Cork County Council in the Skibbereen Electoral Area. First elected to the Seanad in 2002, and re-elected in 2007. Elected to Dáil Eireann in 2011.
